Potato variety: ATLANTIC

Excellent sort of potatoes for boiling, baking, and french frying, unsuitable for chipping. Good potential for count carton trade and all season processing.

Atlantic is variety with high crop of potatoes. Yield has good grade of large tubers. It also is good resistance to second growth.

Potatoes Atlantic variety has very good storage quality, needs through-the-pile ventilation.

The foliage is very sensitive to applications of the herbicide metribuzin (Lexone®, Sencor®) so this herbicide must be applied well before emergence.

Leaves are medium green, moderately and stiffly pubescent, overlapping. Spreading nodes not swelled wings wavy.

Tubers are long; smooth to lightly netted buff skin; medium deep eyes, evenly distributed; white flesh.

Reaction Atlantic potato variety to diseases

Atlantic potato variety is moderately resistant early blight, fusarium dry rot (F. coeruleum and F. sambucinum), phoma rot, rhizoctonia. It is also is susceptible to common scab, late blight, leaf roll, verticillium wilt and PVY.

Atlantic potato tubers are susceptible to internal heat necrosis, especially in sandy soils. Hollow heart in the larger tubers can be serious in some growing areas. Moderate fertilization, close spacing and proper timing of overhead irrigation will prevent the production of oversized tubers that might have hollow heart. Atlantic is the standard variety for chipping from the field or from very short-term storage.
